THE OPPOSITION

Our visitors are preparing for their fourth consecutive season in League Two after promotion at the first time of asking in 2021/22. The Playoff final played at West Ham’s London Stadium saw Grimsby overcome Solihull Moors 2-1 after trailing the game to earn the coveted prize after a sixth-placed National League finish.

Their three campaigns since have been contrasting to say the least. An 11th-placed finish on their return provided optimism of a Playoff push in 2023/24. However, after just 11 wins from 46, David Artell’s side avoided relegation by seven points as Sutton United and Forest Green Rovers came down. Last season, the side from Cleethorpes had a fighting chance of the Playoffs however a late season struggle meant they finished just two points adrift of the top seven.

Artell has dipped into the National League for one of his marquee signings this summer, picking up Altrincham’s Justin Amaluzor who netted four times last campaign. They have also welcomed experienced shot-stopper Christy Pym and Bradford’s Jamie Walker to bolster their hopes of going one step further.

HEAD TO HEAD

We have already seen 50 competitive games involving these two teams with our most recent league meetings coming in the 2022/23 season.

You have to date back to March 2010 for the last Dale win against the Mariners, a 4-1 home victory on our way to promotion from the fourth tier.

Grimsby lead the record overall with 23 wins compared to Dale’s 19.
