Dajaune Brown’s second-half strike levelled the scores but the Dale Head Coach admits the opening period caused some concern.
”Our first-half performance wasn’t good enough”, Watson exclaimed.
“We didn’t react to losing the ball as well as we should and they should’ve scored at least two in the first-half.
“For the second-half, we spoke about being braver with the ball and have a little bit more conviction in what we want to do.
“We made a decision to start playing like us, wanting to get on the ball and the goal from us is incredible, it’s something we work on a lot.
“The players wanted to get out there, they knew it wasn’t good enough early on.”
Despite the early struggles, Dale regrouped to continue a fine run of results both home and away in Sky Bet League Two.
“In the end, in this stadium against this manager, it’s a really good point away from home.
“When we get something from moments, it gives people that belief and we can show what a good team we are. It’s our responsibility to get there without them moments.
“It’s important that we can gain points when not at our best, it’s a process and we need to keep working on what we want to look like.’
Dale have picked up a couple of fresh injury concerns with Watson feeling that the duo of Jonny Smith and Devante Rodney may be back soon.
“Jonny came off last week and it was a bit tight to get him back into training so he’s not ready yet.
“Dev, I really feel for him. He’s got a problem with his hip that he’s trying to push through and he wants to contribute.
“Ultimately, he’s not in a position to do that so he’s going to see a specialist so we’ll know more. We’re hoping it’ll settle down.”
Ian’s first competitive game in charge came at Prenton Park and he still gets that special feeling in front of the Dale crowd.
“The fans are really special. I’m really proud to be part of it and their support means everything to the boys.
“We love them so much and we want to win all the time for them.”
