Bowlee Training Facility | FAQs

Following the announcement by Rochdale Council and Rochdale AFC of the development of proposals to invest and improve the playing fields at Bowlee, there have been many questions and queries from various stakeholders and interested parties.

We have therefore put together a Frequently Asked Questions document to help answer some of the queries, concerns and misconceptions that have been raised so far, which you can view and download below.

A pre planning consultation event was held last week at David Lloyd for local residents to see the plans and ask questions first hand, as well as a site tour for the chair’s of the various Rochdale AFC Community Trust teams. Watch HERE.

Following the event last week, we have also made the feedback survey and consultation boards widely available, online HERE and in-person at Middleton Arena.

The scheme hasn’t yet gone forward to planning – this is pre planning consultation designed around getting initial feedback that will inform the schemes design.

A full planning proposal is in development, which consist of a suite of reports, surveys, due diligence and formal detailed consultation that is required for a scheme such as this.

The quest for a training facility in the borough for Rochdale AFC has been ongoing for a number of years, as has the need to invest in the playing pitches at Bowlee to increase capacity to meet growing community need as one of the Councils designated playing field hubs.

Rochdale Council and Rochdale AFC have come together to formulate an outline plan which was approved by Councillors at informal and formal Rochdale Council Cabinet meetings in the last 12-18 months and, although there are some concerns that need to be overcome, the initial response has been positive from wider stakeholders to what is a once in a life time chance to create a football and wellbeing hub in the borough that will serve residents for generations to come.
