Cian Hayes’ late goal earned Dale all three points, and the Head Coach was pleased with his side’s performance.
“I thought it was a bit of a strange game,” commented Watson.
“I think we had a lot of control from the start of the game, and there just didn’t seem to be much energy in the game.
“The supporters are always amazing, and they give us so much. We spoke to the boys after and just said sometimes we need to give them more moments to get the place noisy.
“We spoke about that at half-time, and in the second half, we really desperately wanted to win the game, and you could see that.
“We wanted to get the ball wide and deliver, then regain it again as much as we possibly could, and really try to hurt them with every action that we had the ball. I think we really deserve the win.”
Dale edged a tight first half, but the momentum built after the break and Watson felt the winner was coming.
“I think sometimes, with the way we play, it sometimes gets forgotten that in the first half, we had a lot of ball, and you can sap the life a little bit out of the opposition.
“ They were cramping up towards the end, with how well we moved the ball at times.
“Sometimes when you’re not getting behind, and you don’t create moments, it becomes like a bit frustrating, but we have to remember that we’re actually taking a lot of energy from the opposition.
“Towards the end of the game, we were turning the screw. We really wanted to build that momentum.
“Daj [Dajaune Brown] had that chance, and the goalkeeper pulled off an amazing save from Task [Charlie Tasker], but I still felt that there was something there for us.
“I thought Hayesy and Mani were outstanding when they came on the pitch, and they gave us exactly what we needed.”
