Goals from Dajaune Brown and Aden Flint earned Dale a 2-1 win at Fleetwood Town, and the Head Coach praised the togetherness.
“There was loads that I loved about the performance,” commented Watson.
“I loved how brave we were with the ball, the start of the game and how quickly we counter pressed when we lost the ball.
“We had two moments in the first four minutes, and that sets the tone. It gets the fans up as well, so I was really pleased with the start.
“I think we deserved the two goals with how well we started and how much courage we played with.
“They got the goal, and I think we went into self-preservation mode a little bit and tried to play the scoreboard.
“We regrouped at half-time, and we started the second half exactly as we started the first. We were good with the ball and showed loads of bravery to bounce out from the goalkeeper.
“It’s all the stuff we’ve been working on, and I think today shows what we want to look like the most.
“The last 20 minutes, you don’t get that from the training ground, you get that from a group of boys who are willing to do anything they possibly can to keep the ball out of the net. A group of boys who love being here.
“We spoke a lot about the amount of fans that would be here today and about using their energy.
“They got us over the line, and it feels like it’s a really together performance from the players, supporters, coaches, everybody involved.”
