Moss Out For Season

Ian Watson confirmed that Dan Moss will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

The defender picked up the ACL injury in the first half of last weekend’s victory over Oldham Athletic.

“Mossy has done his ACL, so his season is done now,” commented Watson.

“He is awaiting surgery now. I can’t speak highly enough of him – when I came into the Club, he wasn’t getting in, and he made me look really silly when he did come in, because he was amazing.

“He’s an absolute warrior and carried on [against Oldham] with an ACL. He’s an amazing person, and we’re devastated for him, but I don’t think he’ll let it define him. He’ll come back as an amazing, stronger player.”

Laurence Maguire also missed out after picking up an injury in the warm-up before Tuesday night’s Jersey Mike’s Trophy tie against Liverpool Under-21s, and the defender will miss over two months.

“Loz is not as bad [as Moss], but he’s going to be out for ten weeks. He’s torn his calf.

“He was in a bad place after he did it because he feels like he’s letting people down, but he’s absolutely not, he’s giving everything every day in training.

“These things happen, but he’ll come back even stronger. It’s really important for us that we get round these guys and really feel part of it.”

The Head Coach had to make a late change to his starting line-up ahead of Saturday’s win over Fleetwood Town, with Nils Ramming pulling out of the warm-up and Sam Waller replacing him in goal.

“Nils has just got a little tweak in his thigh. It was a little tight, so we didn’t think anything of it and Nils said he was okay, but he went out and did the warm-up.

“I think it’s a really unselfish thing that he’s done to come off because it’s not about one individual, it’s about the team. I’ve coached for years, and there are so many players who don’t want to miss out because they don’t want to come out of the team.

“Sam comes in, and his performance was amazing. The save he made in the second-half was amazing, and I thought he dealt with set pieces really well, so it’s a credit to Sam.

“It’s a credit to Lills [Josh Lillis] as well, because as I’ve said before, I think we’ve got a World Class goalkeeping coach. He makes sure the boys are on it all the time, and we’re really lucky to have him at the Football Club, as we are with the other coaches. We’ve got a really good team of people here.”
