The 36-year-old joined Dale in September, making 36 appearances in all competitions.
After extending his stay, Hogan commented:
“I really enjoyed my time here last season, particularly the learning environment and the process, which enabled us to finish in a strong position at the end of the regular season.
“There were lots of real positives around wins, clean sheets, performance identity and a decent points return.
“I’ve had to make a decision around being full-time or moving into a coaching role and playing part-time.
“I had really good conversations with the manager, and we’ve retained a good group. We’ll use the disappointment of how the campaign ended as a bigger motivation to go further and grow.
“I’ve had a great reception from the supporters since I arrived, and I want to continue to be part of a club that has allowed me to show my best self.”

Head Coach Jimmy McNulty says he is delighted that Liam has decided to commit.
“He came in at such a difficult time for us last season, when we lost the captain, Ethan Ebanks-Landell. He did an unbelievable job in that position and complemented the team. By the season’s completion, I was really happy to have him and Ethan.
“He’s at the latter stages of his career and maybe did have opportunities to go another way, but he always expressed from the off that he wanted to recommit to Rochdale.
“I think he could be even better for having last year with us as well. He’s really good for the changing room too.”
Hogan had previously had spells at local clubs Salford City, Stockport County and Oldham Athletic before joining Dale last year.
He made his debut for the club as a substitute in our 1-0 win over Braintree Town in September, going on to become a regular at the heart of our back three.
