Dale took the lead through Josh Andrews but conceded twice to leave the Suit Direct Stadium empty handed.
The gaffer says his players didn’t perform to the level they have hit previously this season.
“I’m disappointed in many aspects,” said Stockdale.
“Mostly with how we played. It wasn’t to the level that I expect and demand. Did we deserve to lose the game in the manner that we did? Probably not. But you can’t concede the two gaols that we have conceded and it’s becoming a bit of recurring habit.
“The most disappointing thing is that we haven’t played to a level that we have in other stages of the season.
“It was a poor game in terms of quality from both teams, I would say. I don’t think the conditions were fantastic to play free-flowing football.
“We didn’t do the basics. We didn’t do the things that we ask them to do and that the players know they need to do more to get a result.
“Possession is nice but it’s got to be with a purpose. We were probing but we didn’t create loads of opportunities with that possession.
“If you’re not going to win the game, don’t lose it. Don’t lose it like that, right at the end, gifting them three points. That shouldn’t have happened.
“This is a young set of players that have been used to, maybe, in the past, putting performance over results, certainly coming through the academies they may have been at and maybe previous times at this club. I want to try and change that.
“This isn’t where we want to be, getting beat with a late sucker punch. Both goals are preventable, and we need to do all aspects of the game better than we did tonight.
“I gave them, rightly so, pats on the back for the game at the weekend. Unfortunately, if we’re going to be truthful with ourselves, we weren’t good enough tonight.
“Saying that, I don’t think we deserved to lose the game. That’s where the frustration comes from, but even if we drew the game I’d be saying we didn’t play well.”
