Dale Held In Farnham Friendly

Dale drew 2-2 with Farnham Town in the first of our home pre-season friendlies on Saturday afternoon.

Mani Dieseruvwe gave Ian Watson’s men an early lead, but the visitors drew level before the break via a superb strike from Rakish Bingham.

The visitors did take the lead through Dan Bayliss, before Ian Henderson headed home an equaliser in the final ten minutes.

Dieseruvwe came close in the opening two minutes, taking a header forward from Sam Beckwith in his stride, before seeing a powerful shot turned wide by goalkeeper Michael Eacott.

However, less than six minutes later, last season’s top scorer netted his first of pre-season. Beckwith again found the striker, who was initially denied by a superb last-ditch tackle. However, the ball fell to Luke Hannant out wide, whose low cross was turned home by Dieseruvwe from a yard out.

Sam Waller, fresh from signing a one-year contract, made a strong save from Billy Clifford, who saw his follow-up well blocked by Bryant Bilongo.

For the most part though, Dale were dominant. Devante Rodney hit the post three times throughout the match, firstly hitting the post with a curling effort after he had burst past several defenders.

He then saw a shot well saved by the legs of Eacott after being played in by Harvey Gilmour, before Rodney turned provider for Ed Francis, whose clip over the goalkeeper was cleared away from danger.

The National League South side equalised in spectacular fashion seven minutes before the break though, when Bingham spotted Waller off his line and drilled a shot from just inside the Dale half over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

Just moments after the break, Rodney hit the post for a second time when he received Gilmour’s pass and rounded the goalkeeper, only to see the effort his the outside of the woodwork.

Dieseruvwe had a shot deflected wide and curled another wide, as Dale continued to control possession.

Rodney then struck the woodwork for the third time, sliding in to meet Tobi Adebayo-Rowling’s cross and diverting it off the far post.

Farnham took the lead in the 71st minute when a long-throw found its way to the back post, where Dan Bayliss nodded home.

Trialist C hit an effort into the arms of Eacott before Henderson levelled in the 82nd minute. Ryan East sent his corner to the near post, where our number 40 got across his man and nodded home to level at 2-2, which is how the game ended.
