Gavin Lloyd’s goal midway through the second-half proved to be the winner, a goal the Dale boss was frustrated with.
“One of their strengths is they get the ball forward and ask questions of your back line,” said Bentley.
“Lloyd, the young lad on loan from Cheltenham, is very good at running in behind. The critical moment in the game, the goal, we haven’t defended that one moment.
“No one has checked his run, we haven’t got our distances right, it’s too easy to go in and score the goal.
“From that moment there’s a lot of huff and puff, but if you give a team at home, with the feel-good factor they’ve got because of the FA Cup run, suddenly it’s a carnival atmosphere.
“They run the clock down, they get the dark arts right and we fell into the trap so many times. We lose the game on the one moment, but we don’t help ourselves.
“There were areas that we thought we could get in and that was proven. At the very least, we should have got a point.
“Jimmy Keohane has had one cleared off the line, Devante has gone through and had it cleared off the line.
“We asked more questions of them than they did of us. In the second-half, I didn’t think we were as good as we can be, but I still thought we were the better side.
“We could have had a penalty; everyone is saying it’s a stonewall penalty. Devante had another opportunity which he should have done better with.
“We never find a way of winning the game, we’re better at finding a way of losing a game. There’s nothing between the two teams, but we’ve come away empty handed again.”
