Solar Project To Get Underway At COA

Rochdale Association Football Club are teaming up with RAP Renewables to install a 150k Solar Edge technology system at the Crown Oil Arena.

The high-efficiency installation, which will fill the entire 1,125 square-metre roof of the David Kilpatrick Main Stand with around 335 solar panels, is designed to offset 34% of the stadium’s power consumption each year.

The project reflects the club’s commitment to sustainable operations and marks a significant step on our journey towards net zero. The installation reduces our dependence on grid energy and will have financial benefits and a positive environmental impact.

Cameron Ogden, Co-Chairman, commented: “This solar project is a significant investment in our commitment to sustainability and RAP’s expertise made it the clear choice to be our renewables partner.

“By reducing our reliance on grid power and supporting our net zero goals, we’re securing a sustainable future for our club for generations to come, as well as generating long-term savings.

“Furthermore, it is important for us to work with local companies and support the Rochdale business community where possible. Many of the staff at their Rochdale office are keen supporters which made RAP the ideal choice.”

Lee Storey, Head of Renewables at RAP, added: “We’re proud to partner with Rochdale AFC on this project, which represents our commitment to providing large-scale, sustainable energy solutions.

“The integration of Solar Edge technology with battery storage on such a substantial scale underscores our ability to deliver tailored projects that maximise both environmental and financial benefits for our clients.

“As a Rochdale-based business, RAP is thrilled to work with the town’s football team to bring about the cost savings we know we can help it achieve.”

Integrated with a 69kWh battery storage system, the setup will ensure a reliable energy backup, supporting essential functions such as floodlighting.

RAP Renewables will manage the project from design to deployment, including a feasibility study, electrical site survey, planning consultancy, technology specification, and full project management. The installation will be completed within an eight-to-ten-day timeframe, with the entire project spanning around four months from planning to sign-off. The system will also include a live monitoring platform, allowing real-time oversight of energy production to ensure optimal efficiency.

We’ll bring you updates of the work that is set to take place over the coming months.
