A promotion winner with Dale in 2009/10, the 38-year-old joins Jimmy McNulty’s backroom staff with immediate effect.
We can also confirm that Kevin Gibbins has departed his role as Head Of Performance Services to join League One side Cardiff City.
Taylor, who has held a coaching capacity at League Two side Barrow since the summer of 2022, commented:
“It’s happened really quickly over the last few days, but I’m delighted to get over the line
“Jimmy gave me a call to see if I would be interested, and I jumped at the chance. I’ve been watching from afar at how well the lads did last season, and I am excited by the project that was in place.
“I know Jimmy really well. We have a really good relationship, and I still speak to him regularly. It was a chance that I didn’t think I could turn down. Hopefully, we can have a successful year ahead.”
Taylor began his footballing career as a trainee at Oldham Athletic, before moving to Stockport County, where he became a teammate of our Head Coach.
He moved to Rotherham United in 2009, from where he joined Dale on loan, making 23 appearances as we gained promotion to League One.
The former midfielder made over 100 appearances for the Millers, which was followed by spells at Cheltenham Town, Northampton Town, Eastleigh and AFC Fylde.
In 2018, he joined Barrow, winning promotion to the EFL and clocking up over 130 appearances. He retired in 2023 to take a full-time coaching role with the Bluebirds.
