The on-loan midfielder missed Tuesday’s win at Gateshead, along with Jake Burger and Matthew Dennis, due to injury.
“Aaron has broken a bone in his foot, unfortunately,” confirmed the Head Coach.
“That’s going to be a long termer. He may need to return to Charlton for that one.
“Burge is a strange one. He had a slight muscle injury that we had looked at and even all the specialists are pretty much confused by it.
“We’re trying to figure out how long he will be out but we’re taking care of his symptoms. They don’t seem too bad so that’s good news. Hopefully he won’t be too long.
“Matty Dennis had a slight awareness of an injury that he had at MK Dons and we want him to be very careful with that because he’s also nursing back to fitness.
“He didn’t make the squad tonight but will be available, all being well, for the next one.”
Dale did welcome back Kairo Mitchell to the squad after he missed the last two through injury, whilst Harvey Gilmour started his first game since Hartlepool United away in September.
Matt Penney, who signed just over a week ago, made his debut as a substitute on Tuesday night, with McNulty pleased to have him on board.
“He’s a really good player, first and foremost. He’s been training with us, and we were looking to get something done, which we were able to.
“He’s a player of real calibre with lovely left foot quality and a good footballing brain which is evident with the levels he’s played at.
“Matt wanted a way back into football, he’s had a year out, but we were aware of his calibre and we’re really happy to add him to the group.”
The 26-year-old Sheffield Wednesday academy graduate was introduced on the hour mark with Dale a goal to the good but a man down, helping his new team secure a big three points.
“It probably wasn’t the way I wanted to get him on to the pitch tonight and probably wasn’t the way he thought it would go either!
“He had to play a few positions for us, but he gave everything and had some key moments in his time out there.”
