The 17-year-old appeared as a late substitute, replacing Owen Dodgson in the 88th minute at the Crown Oil Arena.
Interim Manager Jimmy McNulty says it was a thoroughly deserved debut for the defender.
“I’ve been able to lay some eyes on George in the last 14 days, more than anything I’ve seen of him before.
“It’s something I’ve been very mindful of. I would like to if possible, and I’m speaking as if I may have a possibility of being the manager here, but if I was, I would like to, if possible, bring some sort of alignment back to the youth side of the club with the first team side of the club, as I think that’s been something that has been broken and hasn’t been connected in the last couple of years.
“I would like to bring some sort of alignment back to that. These young players should be exposed to training with us far more often.
“They should be making far more mistakes day to day with us so I can see those and see where growth is, but immediately after seeing George, I’ve liked the look of him and I’ve been wanting to give him an opportunity.
“I’ve felt he’s deserved it with his application and his quality, so I was really, really pleased to bring a young left-footed, left-side centre-half on.”
Nevett becomes the fourth current Academy player to feature for the First Team this season, following debuts for Under-16s Kevin Dos Santos and Oscar Kelly, as well as fellow first-year scholar Darren Ehimamiegho.
Congratulations, George!
