A younger Dale group came up against a strong Carlisle outfit, who ran out 5-0 winners. This was due to a number of lads’ involvement in the First Team match at Huddersfield Town.
Goalkeeper Jake Braithwaite was called into action from the off, making an outstanding save from a one-on-one.
That was the early warning sign for Dale who soon fell behind as the visitors powered home a header.
Just shy of the half-hour mark one became two as Amaru Smith got his second from a clinical counter attack.
Dale had a mountain to climb just before the break as two quickfire goals sent the side in blue in behind by four.
Sub goalkeeper Mackai Gee came on and was also impressive in preventing the scoreline becoming more, however his save late on fell invitingly for a Carlisle attacker to slam home.
