The defender, who has previously worked with our Head Coach Ian Watson at Milton Keynes Dons, has penned a one-year-deal at the club.
“I’m really happy and excited,” Sherring commented.
“We have a great relationship [with Ian & Carl] – they’re two really good people and coaches. As soon as I heard from them, at a big club, it was a no-brainer.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my experience in this league and helping the lads towards a successful year.”
Watson commented on how the player’s expertise will aid the squad:
“We’re really pleased to get Sam in.
“He’s got a lot of experience in League One and Two and he’ll offer us a lot of strength in that area.
“Sam is a really good defender, who wants to learn and develop, and will give us something different in the backline.”
The 26-year-old became part of the Bournemouth set up from the age of seven, spending a total of 12 years at the South Coast side.
During his time at the Cherries, Sam had two loan spells at Weymouth and Torquay United in non-league. He enjoyed a successful stint at Torquay as the Devonshire outfit made the National League promotion final, losing on penalties to Hartlepool United in 2021.
This earned the versatile defender a move to the EFL with Accrington Stanley and then Cambridge United the same season, making 29 appearances overall before a return to his parent club.
In 2022, Sherring linked up with Northampton Town and was integral in their promotion to League One in his first season, scoring twice.
After almost 100 outings in two years, he joined MK Dons where he began working with Ian Watson and Carl Magnay. Sam spent last campaign on loan at Cheltenham Town before departing The Dons this summer.
Welcome, Sam!
